Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF)
  • 6 awards given
    • one of the top 6 projects from grades 7-12
  • all-expenses paid trip to the CWSF
  • self nomination required
  • students must be able to travel on the specified dates
  • cannot be awarded to a student attending ISEF
  • should be at minimum a Best in Fair, Best in Division, or Award of Excellence Winner, unless some of those recipients are not able/eligible to attend CWSF
  • can be in any project category
Peer Judging Awards - Beginner
  • best beginner’s project as judged by their peers

Plant Biology Award
  • a deserving biology project, preferably involving plants
Geological Sciences Award
  • most deserving geology or mining project
LU book Awards - Junior
  • most deserving Junior projects (of total 5)
  • self nomination not required
LU book Awards - Intermediate / Senior
  • most deserving Intermediate / Senior projects (of total 5)
  • self nomination not required
Transportation Award
  • top project in the field of transportation
  • grades 7-12
Renewable Energy Award
  • top project(s) in renewable energy or air quality, with demonstration of environmental stewardship
  • ​grades 7-12
Ecological Consciousness Award
  • for project(s) with a nature-related theme such as ecology, biodiversity, or environmental stewardship
  • grades 7-12
Environmental Responsibility Award
  • projects investigate/demonstrate ways that we can reduce our use of energy, reduce waste, or reuse materials
  • preference is for a junior project, but will consider intermediate & senior project that best meet the criteria
Women in Engineering Award
  • awarded to the top engineering project by a female
  • grades 7-12
PEO Award
  • for the most technologically innovative project, to produce a working model
Peace & Sustainable Development Award
  • a deserving project in area of peace & sustainable development
  • grades 7-12
LU Psychology Award
  • project focusing on any aspect of human behaviour
  • grades 7-12
Union Gas Award
  • a top project in the area of energy conservation
  • grades 7-12
TB Hydro Award
  • the top energy project
  • grades 7-12
Rotary Preserve Planet Earth Award
  • awarded to the project which best investigates the science of climate change
  • grades 7-12
Health Research Award 
  • a project using scientific principles in exploring or solving a problem​ related to human health issues
Technological Innovation Award 
  • a project that develops a technology/device/system to solve a problem or create improvements
Mathematics Award 
  • a project that identifies/solves a problem with a creative use of​ mathematics
Ken Shurget Memorial Communication Award 
  • to a student who exemplifies the passion and enthusiasm necessary to accomplish great science. For great communication skills.
Lakehead University Entrance Scholarship
Award

  • most deserving senior project, or intermediate if no suitable senior project
University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarship
Award

  • to the most deserving senior project from each region, as selected by the regional science fair organization
  • the scholarship will be applied to tuition fees when the student(s) register in an undergraduate program at the Faculties of Engineering, Science or Health Sciences
  • in the case of a 2-student project, each student will receive a $500 admission scholarship if they register in appropriate undergraduate programs at the University of Ottawa
Horticultural Society Award
  • a deserving biology project, preferably involving plants
  • grades 7-12
LU Engineering Award 
  • the top engineering project
NorthWestern Ontario Prospectors’ Award
  • most deserving geology or mining project in each of the junior, intermediate & senior categories (where numbers warrant)
  • if no suitable geology or mining project, the funds may be used to support travel to the CWSF
Lakehead Regional Conservational Authority
Award
  • deserving project in water conservation & environment
  • grades 7-12
